The University of Alabama Partnership

Through our hands-on classes, DCGP classes teach UA students how to grow vegetables, teach project-based lessons, and build community through food.

uapartnership UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ARE CRITICAL TO OUR WORK. THROUGH SERVICE-LEARNING INITIATIVES AND KEY PARTNERSHIPS, UA STUDENTS ALLOW OUR PROGRAMS TO THRIVE.

Since 2010, UA students have contributed in meaningful ways to our organization and toward our mission. UA students have cared for gardens, built vermicompost systems, sold produce at local farmers markets, constructed a beautiful greenhouse and packing shed at our flagship garden. They’ve also created recipe cards and a cookbook, planted a fruit-tree orchard at the Tuscaloosa County Juvenile Detention Center, facilitated garden-based lessons for elementary students, created graphic design materials, and developed public relations campaigns for our fundraising events. The continued work and dedication of these students enhances every aspect of DCGP’s programs!
